10 – 25 County Employees Could Be Let Go

Faced with the prospect of having to reduce next year’s budget by more than $3 million dollars- the Allegany County Commissioners are looking at several scenarios that could lead to anywhere from ten to twenty-five employees let go. Across the board reductions, no increases for any department and employees furloughs and layoffs are all on the table as the county attempt to address the current fiscal crisis. Following a closed session to discuss the possibility of personnel reductions, the Commissioners conducted a public budget work shop on Thursday where Finance Director Jason Bennett outlined some of the less than ideal options the county will have to explore. Combined with the recent elimination of 32 positions- Commissioner Creade Brodie asked Bennett if the county could maintain an adequate level of service for citizens if additional cuts are made…
