Fourth graders and eigth-graders in Maryland showed improvements in reading compared to results from tests they took two years ago. However, eigth-graders performed about the same in math. Maryland students performed above the national average under tests administered by the Education Department's National Center for Education Statistics. The following table shows the percentage of students at-or-above proficency levels in reading and math.
