18 Year Old Arrested In Connection With Artmor Arson

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office tells WCBC News that an arrest has been made in connection with the fire that did $750,000 damage to the Artmor Plastics Building on Wills Mountain Wednesday afternoon.

Martin E. Witt, Jr, of Cumberland, has been formally charged and is being held in lieu of $500,000 bond.  Witt has been charged with 2nd Degree Arson, 1st & 2nd Degree Malicious Burning, 4th Degree Burglary and Malicious Destruction of Property.   Four 17 year old juveniles are also being questioned and additional charges are pending.

A team of investigators are working on the case and collecting evidence related to the cause of the blaze that heavily damaged one third of the structure at the old manufacturing plant located at 10500 Wills Mountain Road in Cumberland.

Nearly 125 firefighters responded to the scene from Allegany County, Garrett County and West Virginia. The fire was called in at approximately 2:30 p.m. and took nearly two hours to bring safely under control. No injuries were reported during the incident.

A value loss for the property damaged by the fire is under assessment. Anyone having information concerning this incident is asked to contact the Western Regional Office of the State Fire Marshal at 301-766-3888.
