MSP Hagerstown Investigates Serious Mishap

Type of Incident: Serious Injury Vehicle Collision

Date and Time: September 30, 2017 at 1643 PM.

Location: MD Rt. 58 Cearfoss Pike at Rt. 63 Greencastle Pike, Washington County, Maryland

NarrativeOn Saturday afternoon at 4:43 PM, Maryland State Police in Hagerstown report a vehicle accident involving serious injuries occurred on Cearfoss Pike at Greecastle Pike in Washington County.  

A 2013 Subaru BRZ was traveling W/B Rt. 58 approaching Rt. 63 at a high rate of speed. Vehicle 1 attempted to pass another vehicle on a double yellow line at the crest of a hill. As vehicle 1 was making this illegal passing maneuver, a 2007 Chevrolet Truck operated by Douglas Spade was traveling E/B Rt. 58 at this location cresting the hill.

The driver of vehicle 1 lost control of the vehicle, swerved off the roadway, struck a tree causing it to overturn on its roof, then struck the side of vehicle 2. Driver of vehicle 2 was not injured. Front seat passenger of vehicle 1 was transported by ambulance to Meritus Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of vehicle 1 was identified as Jamin Brent Cirilo. Mr. Cirilo sustained significant injuries to his lower body as a result of the collision. MSP Aviation was requested by medical personnel on the scene. Shock Trauma GO-Team was also requested and flown to the scene by Trooper 1. Mr. Cirilo was extricated from the vehicle and transported by MSP Aviation to Shock Trauma.
