Three Arrested in Westernport Disturbance

On 09/13/2018 at approximately 1:00 AM, Deputies of The Allegany County Sheriff's Office responded to Maryland Avenue in Westernport for a reported disturbance. While on scene deputies located a W/M, Vincent Mendez-28 y.o. of Westernport, who they knew had an open felony arrest warrant stemming from an incident that occurred on September 3, 2018 on Maryland Ave. The arrest warrant charged Mendez with:

-Robbery 

-Theft <$100.00

-2nd Degree Assault


 

Deputies had just secured Mendez in a patrol vehicle when a W/F, Diane Mendez-52 y.o. of Westernport, approached the deputies and attacked one of them. While placing Diane under arrest for the assault she continued to resist arrest. Diane was subsequently arrested and charged with:

-2nd Degree Assault

-Resisting Arrest


 

As deputies were attempting to conclude the initial disturbance call a W/M, Blake Cronk-30 y.o. of Westernport, began to act irate. Despite orders from deputies Cronk continued to yell and act disorderly causing the attention of numerous neighbors in the area. Deputies attempted to arrest Cronk when he physically resisted being taken into custody. Cronk was subsequently taken into custody and charged with:

-Disorderly Conduct

-Intoxicated Disorderly

-Resisting Arrest


 

While transporting the three aforementioned arrests to the District Court of Allegany County, Vincent Mendez attempted to remove his restraints while in a moving patrol vehicle. Mendez moved himself into the console area causing the deputy to lose control of his vehicle while trying to maintain control of Mendez. The deputy struck a curb in the area of Lonaconing causing functional, but minor damage to the patrol vehicle. Mendez was additionally charged with:

-Attempted 2nd Degree Escape

-Interfering with Arrest

 

Diane Mendez was released on her own recognizance.

Vincent Mendez was initially held without bond at the Allegany County Detention Center and later released on his own recognizance after a bail review. 

Blake Cronk was ordered held at the Allegany County Detention Center on a $2,000.00 bond and also on the strength of a Mineral County Warrant which was filed as a detainer.
