600 file for unemloyment in Allegany County last week

A total of 41,941 Maryland residents, 600 in Allegany County,  filed unemployment insurance claims in the week ending June 13, 2020, an decrease of 11,523 from the previous week, labor officials report. Last week, 53,464 Marylanders filed for unemployment insurance benefits claims with the Maryland Department of Labor Division of Unemployment Insurance amid the coronavirus pandemic.

For the week ending May 30, 43,095 claims were filed overall, the week ending May 23, 48,963 claims, 51,108 claims the week ending on May 16, for the week of May 9, 65,805 filed claims and 109,263 claims the week ending May 2.

The unemployment numbers sharply increased the week ending in May 2 due to expanded filing under the federal CARES Act and the new website implemented by labor officials. 

In the week ending in April 25, 2020, a total of 37,225 Maryland residents filed claims.

The week ending in April 18, 2020, officials said 47,545 residents filed for benefits. The previous week, 61,770 residents filed claims.

Baltimore, Montgomery and Prince George's counties had the highest amount of residents to file claims, according to reports.

Overall, 1,508,000 Americans filed unemployment insurance claims with the U.S. Department of Labor, a decrease of 58,000 from the previous week's revised numbers

      > Found this date June 18th– “In total, 801,119 Marylanders have filed unemployment claims since March 14.” Of course that doesn’t include any that haven’t bothered to file or the ones that quit working & looking long ago.( like half of this area)
