Operation Safe Streets Requesting Assistance from Public

February 19th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

During the month of February a new Warrant Initiative will be conducted in combination with the Cumberland Safe Streets Program and citizen cooperation. The Operation Safe Streets Initiative will begin Monday, February 25, and conclude Friday, March 1, 2013.

The goal is to involve our community neighbors, public safety and social service partners in helping to make our streets safer.

As many know, under the Maryland State Safe Streets’ model, the Cumberland Police Department, in conjunction with the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office and allied law enforcement agencies, is collaborating with a unified approach to reduce crime and improve the quality of our neighborhoods.

The Safe Streets objective is to reduce crime and criminal activity within the City and surrounding areas. In our efforts to reduce the backlog of arrest warrants this is an opportune time to seek citizen assistance.
