On 01/22/2014 at approximately 1145 a.m. while on routine patrol, Cumberland Police officers came upon an accident that had just occurred on Willison Place in Cumberland. When officers arrived they found that two vehicles had collided head on due to the icy conditions caused by the extreme cold temperatures and previous snowfall on the roadway.
When contacted by the officers, both operators were complaining of possible injuries and the Cumberland Fire Department was summoned to the scene to treat the operators. The roadway had to be shut down for approximately 45 minutes while the operators were removed from their vehicles and the roadway was treated by the Cumberland Street Department.
Both operators were transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center by Cumberland Ambulance crews for treatment of possible injuries. The investigation revealed that the operator of the at fault vehicle Apryl Nicole Parks 23, of Cumberland was traveling southbound on Willison Place and began sliding on the ice. Parks’ vehicle crossed over into the northbound lanes causing her vehicle to strike a vehicle traveling in the northbound lane. As a result Parks was charged with the following:
