Accident On I-81 Sunday Evening

Maryland State Police are investigating a Sunday evening, two vehicle collision on I-81 which resulted in a tractor trailer overturning.

 

At 10:01 PM, the Washington County 911 Center received a report of an overturned tractor trailer in the center median of I-81, north of Halfway Blvd. Troopers Maryland State Police, Hagerstown Barrack along with local fire and EMS companies, were immediately dispatched to the scene.

 

The driver of the overturned tractor trailer was identified to be Justin Hanna (33). A Honda van driven by Paari Gopalakrishnan (40), was also involved in the collision.

 

            The initial investigation revealed that the tractor trailer was traveling in the left lane and the Honda van was traveling in the right lane. The Honda van crossed the dotted line into the left lane and side swiped the right front wheel of the tractor portion of the tractor trailer. The tractor trailer swerved to the left and traveled off the roadway and entered the center median. The fully loaded tractor trailer overturned in the center median losing a portion of its load. 

 

            A local tow service along with resources from the State Highway Administration responded to the scene. Lane closures of north bound I-81 lanes were required to facilitate the clean-up of the collision scene.
