Accident on Rt. 220

On December 17, 2011, at approximately 11:41PM, the Allegany County Sheriff's Office responded to a two vehicle accident on Route 220 (McMullen Highway) near the intersection of state route 956, Rawlings, Allegany County, Maryland.  Investigation revealed that a 2001 Volvo was traveling north on Route 220 and crossed the center line striking head on a 2005 Ford Explorer which was traveling south on Route 220.  The Volvo was being operated by a 17 year old juvenile along with a 15 year old juvenile passenger.  The 17 year old was transported by ambulance to the Western Maryland Regional Hospital for non life threatning injuries.  The 15 year old passenger who was entraped in the vehicle was flown from the scene by Maryland State Police Helicopter "Trooper 5" to the Western Maryland Regional Hospital and her condition is listed as non life threatning.  The operator of the Ford Explorer, Charles O'Haver, 74 YOA, was transported to Western Maryland Regional Hospital along with his wife (front seat passenger), Joyce O'Haver, 73 year old, both reside in Rawlings, Maryland.  Both O'Haver's are listed as being in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit at the local hospital.  The contributing factor of the accident is speed related.  The 17 year old juvenile was charged in the accident.  Route 220 was closed for approximately 2 1/2 hours.  The Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by Maryland State Police, Cresaptown Volunteer Fire and Rescue Units, Trooper 5, and State Highway Administration.
