Accident with injuries Monday

On Monday, Deputies from the Allegany County Sheriff's Office responded to National Hwy. @ the I-68 W/B intersection in LaVale for a reported M/V crash with injuries. Investigation revealed that the juvenile operator (17 years old, Frostburg) of a 2006 Chrysler passenger car was travelling west on National Hwy. and attempted to turn left onto the I-68 W/B on ramp. In doing so, he failed to yield the right of way a 2004 Chevy passenger car travelling east on National Hwy., operated by Gary Schultz (44 years old, Cumberland) and as a result was struck broadside by Shultz's vehicle.The juvenile at fault driver was transported to the WMHS-RMC for non life threatening injuries as was the female passenger of Shultz's vehicle, Jennell Ahern (28 years old, Cumberland) and 2 year old toddler, also a passenger in the Schultz vehicle.The at fault juvenile operator was cited for failing to yield the right of way while turning left.Deputies were aided at the scene by volunteers from the LaVale VFD and LaVale Rescue Squad as well as the Cresaptown VFD. E/B National Hwy. @ I-68 W/B was closed approximately 45 minutes and drivers exiting from I-68 W/B attempting to turn left (W/B) onto National Hwy. were re-routed onto E/B National Hwy.
