According to an article in Trains News Wire, the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad may gain a locomotive but lose the railroad itself, if costs of restoration outstrip the funds to pay for them. Western Maryland’s General Manager John Garner told the magazine that he is a realist and at one point the operation is going to run out of money. The restoration of the steam locomotive 1309 has become something of a money pit for the railroad- with the price tag jumping significantly in the past year.
