The Middle States Commission on Higher Education, which recently evaluated Allegany College of Maryland for institutional and educational effectiveness, has reaffirmed its accreditation through 2022-23. The regional accrediting agency’s approval, issued at a mid-November meeting, follows a comprehensive review of the college as a whole and of individual units.

The process included an institutional self-study and an onsite evaluation by a team of nine community college executives, administrators and faculty members.

Middle States examines for 14 standards that demonstrate its Characteristics of Excellence in Higher Education in colleges seeking accreditation.

The 14 are divided evenly among overall institutional operations and aspects of the education and related services that a college delivers to students and the community.

Institutional standards include such wide-ranging areas as mission and goals; planning resource allocation and institutional renewal; leadership and governance; administration and institutional assessment.
