Additional Assault Arrests Made

Two additional arrests have been made in connection with the assault which occurred on Maryland Avenue in Cumberland on Thursday evening, 10/09/2014. As a result of continued investigation into the incident, Investigators with the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) obtained arrest warrants for 22 year old Charles Ace Casey, of Cumberland, and 25 year old Garrett Michael Ketterman, also of Cumberland, who were arrested on 10/17/20014, and charged for their part in the incident.

            The Cumberland Police, with the assistance of allied agencies, including the Maryland State Police and the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, responded to calls of a large fight on Maryland Avenue involving persons using knives, bats, and metal pipes. When Officers arrived they discovered one victim, who had to be transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for emergency treatment, suffering from stab wounds. At that time 19 year old Jonthan Edward Harriss, of Cumberland, was arrested and charged with Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, 1st Degree Assault, and related charges.

            Investigators reviewed surveillance video and spoke with numerous witnesses, and were able to identify Casey and Ketterman as participants in the incident.

            Casey was charged with 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault, Carrying a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Injure, and several other related charges. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance and is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center on $20,000.00 bond.

            Ketterman was charged with 2nd Degree Assault, Carrying a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Injure, Illegal Possession of Ammunition by a Prohibited Person, and several other related charges. He was also taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance and is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center on $15,000.00 bond.
