Additional Funding Will Provide Expanded Upgrade of Streets

December 6th, 2012 by WCBC Radio

As a result of some additional funding, a once minor upgrade of  Baltimore Avenue will be expanded to a far more extensive project. City Engineer John DiFonzo provided an overview of the project during Tuesday's meeting of the Cumberland Mayor and City Council. Difonzo said that new dollars have been made available from the Appalachian Regional Commission and a Community Development Block Grant allowing for a greatly expanded project. It was the failure of another local project that made nearly a million dollars in ARC funds available for the project. As a result,  updates that include the intersection of Front Street and Baltimore Avenue, Henderson Avenue all the way to Glenn St. and the widening of the “narrow section” of Baltimore Avenue can move forward. During construction, Difonzo noted that traffic will be temporarily one-way from Baltimore Avenue at Henderson, extending to Marion, with Interstate 68 being used as the detour.
