September 14th, 2011 by WCBC Radio

On Tuesday morning, 09/13/2011, at approximately 10:40 AM, a lone suspect entered the M & T Bank branch office located on Industrial Boulevard in Cumberland. The suspect produced a dark colored, semi-automatic handgun, and demanded money from the employees. After placing the money in a dark colored case, the suspect walked out the back door, ran up Massachusetts Avenue, and turned right onto Church Street.

Members of the Cumberland Police responded to the scene. With the assistance of the Maryland State Police, the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, the Maryland State Police Medevac helicopter “Trooper 5”, and K-9’s from the Cumberland Police and the Maryland State Police, a search of the area was conducted, but the suspect was not located.

The suspect was described by witnesses as a white male, in his mid forties, with a graying goatee. He was wearing a dark colored t-shirt, blue shorts, white tennis shoes, and a dark colored, toboggan style cap with a bill.

The crime scene was processed by the Maryland State Police Evidence Collection Unit. Surveillance video of the suspect was obtained.

Members of the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) and the FBI also responded to assist in the investigation. The joint investigation is continuing.
