Additional Staff Reductions needed to balance School Bd budget

Having watched the Allegany County Commissioners turn down a request for a million additional dollars above last year’s allocation, the Board of Education Tuesday met in a special work session with the task of reducing the originally proposed budget by $170,000. The financial blow was cushioned significantly by an unexpected additional $830,000 from the state. Superintendent David Cox said the priority in finalizing the FY 2016 budget was to allow for a 1% COLA for teachers and all other bargaining units. In addition to dipping into the reserve fund to balance the budget, additional staff reductions are on the table- with 16 ½ positions not expected to be filled for the coming year…
