All Signs Point Cumberland’s Post Office Sorting Facility Closure

It appears local Postal workers won the battle earlier this year- but now will be losing the war as all signs point to Cumberland’s Post Office sorting facility closing by the end of the year. In May of this year, the nearly bankrupt U.S. Postal Service announced plans to move ahead with plans to close dozens of mail processing centers, saying it could an no longer wait as Congress remained deadlocked over how to help. At the time Cumberland’s Park Street facility was not on the endangered list- thanks in large part to lobbying on the part of U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin- but things have changed according to AFSCME representative Jack Davis with the consolidation starting to be phased in next month…
