Allegany BOE presents in-person learning timetable

Under the plan outlined during Tuesday’s meeting of the Allegany County Board of Education- small groups of students could be back in the classrooms for in person instruction within two weeks. Interim superintendent of schools Jeff Blank and Chief Academic Officer Dr Kim Kalbaugh presented the system’s return to school plan- which began with a detailed presentation from the Allegany County Health Department. That presentation provided an overview of the state’s health guidelines that must be followed in order for classroom instruction to begin- as well as addressing how cases or outbreaks will be handled. Phase one of the plan began Tuesday with the virtual, on line start to the school year. Phase two is set for September 21st- allowing small groups of special needs children to return to the classrooms. Phase three on September 28th would allow students without connectivity to return to school. Phase 4 would begin allowing elementary school students to return; and phase five- pending the metrics, would provide for a hybrid program to be in place.
