Allegany Co. Schools Adding Agricultural Science Elective

An agricultural science elective will be added to the Allegany County Public Schools curriculum for the 2020 to 2021 school year. The school system in 2015 removed the agriculture program, which forced the elimination of its Future Farmers of America. At a meeting in January, Allegany County Farm Bureau President T.R. Robinette urged the school board to reinstate the programs. During this month’s board meeting,  Kim Kalbaugh, chief academic officer, discussed the new elective. She said the class could umbrella a broad view of agriculture and include areas of study such as wildlife management. Field trips and hands-on activities for students are expected to be part of the program.
