Allegany Co. State’s Attorneys Office Investigating McCoole Volunteer Fire Company

June 14th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

Allegany County State’s Attorney Mike Twigg confirmed this week that his office is conducting an investigation into the financial mismanagement that has led to the closure of the McCoole Volunteer Fire Company. The once solvent community fire department has been slowly eroding and in the end had only one fire truck, nearly $1 million in debt and the station in foreclosure. The focal point of the investigation is the apparent mismanagement of the fire company’s assets under the administration of former Fire Chief Charles Pearce Jr.  Dick DeVore, director of the department of emergency services for Allegany County, has repeatedly praised the work of the volunteers who gave of their time and provided fire service for many years- emphasizing that those volunteers are in no way responsible for the fiscal mess..
