As previously announced, Allegany County Government operates a supervised compost site for residents and businesses in the North Branch Industrial Park, 11700 PPG Road, Cumberland. PPG Road is off of Maryland Route 51 South.
The winter schedule starts on Tuesday, December 1. The winter schedule is 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, 3 days a week: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
Accepted: grass, leaves, brush, tree limbs 4 inches or less in diameter, Christmas trees, and other fresh holiday greenery free of artificial decorations of any type.
Not Accepted: stumps, roots, tree limbs exceeding 4 inches in diameter, rubble, demolition material, lumber, pallets, railroad ties, and all other items not listed as “accepted.”
There is free drop off of accepted items and free pick up of composted mulch for Allegany County citizens and businesses at the compost site.
