Allegany County Library System Not Banning Controversial Book

While at least one county library system in Maryland has decided to ban the controversial new book “50 Shades of Grey”- that won’t be the case locally. The novel has been deemed too blue for the Harford County Public Library. The novel which follows, in explicit detail, the relationship between a young woman and a billionaire is a runaway best seller. It's number one again this week on the New York Times best seller list.  But there's no waiting list in Harford County, because there are no copies of the book in the library. Library Director Mary Hastler says the library's board of directors decided not to carry the book that she calls "pornographic."  Allegany County Library Director John Taube tells WCBC News that as is the case with all new books- it was subject to review- but ultimately considered acceptable…
