Allegany County Wins Award At Maryland Travel Summit

November 20th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

Allegany County Tourism took home an award at the 38th Annual Maryland Travel and Tourism Summit, presented by the Maryland Tourism Coalition.

Competing against other counties within the state and Maryland Tourism Coalition partners, Allegany County Tourism won the Best Website Award for their new website – www.mdmountainside.com, which was launched in July of 2018.

The Best Website Award is given to a recipient whose website demonstrates a creative implementation of a brand that is visually pleasing, unique, that captures the spirit of the brand, and is user-friendly.

“Our goal with our website relaunch was to leverage Allegany County’s brand awareness in a competitive marketplace,” said Director of Tourism, Ashli Workman. “We are honored to receive this award at the state level from the Maryland Tourism Coalition for the product we developed.”

In February of 2018, tourism awarded Barkley REI, an interactive web design and marketing agency, based in Pittsburgh, the contract from a bidding process that began in October of 2017. Barkley REI specializes in destination marketing organization product development.

The Maryland Tourism Coalition annually awards projects, events, and people that make a difference in the Maryland tourism industry to showcase the creativity and ingenuity of the industry.

It is quite believable that we got an award for a website designed by folks elsewhere rather than the actions of any of the locals. If we limit tourism to just the virtual sort we can probably improve our image.
