Allegany Girls’ Therapeutic Group Home Seeking Donations

It’s that time of year, and the Allegany Girls’ Therapeutic Group Home is seeking donations for Christmas for its residents and adults who are interested in being mentors. Program Director Jennifer Yonker provided an update on the program during last week’s meeting of the Allegany County Commissioners. . The girls’ home can have up to eight girls ages 13 to 18.  All the girls have been adjudicated by courts, and while preference is given to local girls, they can come from anywhere in Maryland. Yonker said that the holiday season can be a special, but emotional time for the girls. She relayed one story of a girl who had been essentially raised by a gang prior to ending up at the local facility- and how she was overcome with emotion when the Christmas tree was decorated…
