American Woodmark local operation remains open, others closing

April 18th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Times News reports, due to regulations that pertain to COVID-19, operations at American Woodmark Corporation’s component plants in Mexico have been suspended through April 30.

The company, which makes cabinetry, hopes to get the orders lifted by having the plants identified as essential to operate by the Mexican government.

The plants manufacture “important components used by certain of our (U.S.) manufacturing plants largely for our home center and builder channel and to a lesser extent our independent dealer and distributor channel,” the company stated in a news release.

Cabinet manufacturing was identified as essential to the critical infrastructure within the U.S. by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

All other American Woodmark manufacturing plants, including the local facility, on Friday remained open and operational.

This is a joke, obviously, but it’s unfortunate as the employees are putting their lives at risk as well as the lives of their families and anyone else they come in close contact with.
Those unfortunate employees have no choice but to show up at work everyday or risk being fired by the heartless and, frankly, criminal higher ups only concerned with profit.
Put the plant manager and other overseers on the floor with the production workers. I dare them.

I agree with you Mac. It’s sad and once again money is the culprit for these greedy business owners.

The workers may contract dry cough or remain completely asymptomatic. The tragedy!

      > And those workers might just pass that infection on to others and kill them.

Personally, I do consider that an unnecessary tragedy.
