Annapolis Impacted by Coalition of Rural Maryland

The recently formed coalition of rural Maryland counties has already made an impact in Annapolis according to Allegany County Commissioners Mike McKay- and the battles will continue during the legislative session. At the top of the hit list are PlanMaryland and other fee and tax increase proposals- such as an increase in the flush tax-  coming from Gov. Martin O’Malley’s administration. The Maryland Rural Counties coalition plans to support legislation to block PlanMaryland. County officials have asked local legislators to “oppose any attempt to institute components of the PlanMaryland initiative. The implementation of PlanMaryland in its present form represents significant threats to local autonomy and to the economic future for jurisdictions outside the Baltimore-Washington corridor,” they said in a letter to the delegation.
