Cumberland Christmas Tree Lighting

November 23rd, 2012 by WCBC Radio

Thousands packed the downtown mall Friday night for the annual Cumberland Christmas tree lighting ceremony.  With a completely decorated and lit 25-foot Norway spruce in  Town Centre, combined with unseasonably mild temperatures- it was one of the larger crowds in recent history. This year’s tree was donated by the Janis Johnson and family of Haddon Avenue, Cumberland. Proceeding the Tree Lighting ceremony, community members and leaders took part in the annual Candle Light Walk.  It was a little after  7 p.m.,  when the the entire downtown lit up when Mayor Brian Grim hit the switch trigering the thousands of lights from Emmanuel Episcopal Church and throughout the area light up.  As he does every year, Santa made his annual visit to Downtown Cumberland immediately following the tree lighting and had a long line of excited kids waiting to whisper their Christmas wish lists to him.
