Area Loses Two Sports Legends

The area has lost two sports legends. Ronald Cage, 80, and Edward Schwarz, 86, passed away this week.

Cage was well-known as a high school basketball official and slow-pitch softball official. Cage played football for Fort Hill and threw the game-tying touchdown in the 1948 Turkey Day Game that ended ina  6-6 tie.

Ed Schwarz played football at the University of Maryland for four years and was one of the last 4-sports athletes. Locally, Schwarz coached Allegnay football for 13 years. He was inducted into the Allegany Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.
