Area swimming pools won’t open this weekend

May 28th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Although Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has lifted the COVID-19 restrictions to allow swimming pools to partially open beginning this weekend- local pools simply aren't prepared yet. Cumberland Mayor Ray Morriss tells WCBC News that the Constitution Park swimming pool is not ready to open- and that it will take some time to get staffing in place. At this point there is no projected opening date. In Frostburg, City Administrator Elizabeth Stahlman reports that the pool is in the process of being filled and will be inspected early next week. The hope is that it will be ready to open Thursday. Dan's Mountain pool in Lonaconing also will not open this weekend with no estimated date offered.

The Constitution Park pool rarely opened on schedule in the past decade or longer. This pandemic is providing many incompetent government agencies at all levels with the excuses they have long hoped for as well as the supposed justification for shortening the leash on their subjects.
