Armed Robbery

Just before midnight Friday officers with the Cumberland Police Department were dispatched to a business located within the 900 block of Oldtown Rd in reference to an armed robbery in progress. Officers arrived on the scene and secured the business. It was learned that a black male had entered the business wearing dark clothing with a hood pulled tight over his face. The suspect displayed a knife and demanded money from the cash register. A second employee fearing the safety of the other employee was able to strike the suspect from behind and both employees were able to exit the business safely. The suspect then opened the cash register and removed an undisclosed amount of currency and fled the scene. A description which was obtained for the suspect was then broadcasted to responding units. A short time later Officers located a subject matching the description of the suspect attempting to flag down a taxi cab several blocks away from the scene. The suspect was stopped and detained and was positively identified by employees. The suspect was identified as 34yo Shawn Holloway Sr. of Cumberland. Holloway was placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland Police Dept where he was charged with Robbery, Armed Robbery, Assault First Degree, Assault Second Degree, Theft, Reckless Endangerment, and Deadly Weapon Intent to Injure. Holloway was taken for an initial appearance at District Court where he was held on a $275,000.00 bail. Holloway was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center pending his next appearance in District Court. There were no injuries as a result of the incident. The victim was evaluated at the scene by the Cumberland Fire Department however refused any further medical treatment. The Cumberland Police Department was assisted by Troopers with the Maryland State Police, Maryland State Police Aviation Unit, C3I Investigations, and Technicians with the Maryland State Police Crime Scene Unit.
