Armed robbery at local bar

November 28th, 2011 by WCBC Radio

On Monday at approximately 5:15 AM, the Cumberland Police responded to the Brass Kactus bar on E. Offutt Street for a reported armed robbery.             Officers interviewed an employee who serves as the bookkeeper, and had arrived at work that morning to prepare the business to open for the day. According to the employee, he was approached by three suspects, one of whom displayed a small handgun. The employee was struck in the head with an unknown object by one of the suspects who demanded money. The suspects then removed an undisclosed sum of cash from the cash register and the bar area before fleeing on foot. The direction of travel was unknown.             The employee could provide limited information about the suspects, only that it was three males wearing black ski masks. There was no further description.             A search of the area, which included a Cumberland Police K-9 dog, was conducted, but the suspects were not located at that time.

Investigators with the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) also responded to assist in the investigation. The scene was processed for evidence by the Cumberland Police.
