September 5th, 2014 by WCBC Radio

On Friday, Investigators with the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) arrested 42 year old Bart Alan Mazer, of Frostburg, after a warrant charging him with two counts of 4th Degree Sex Offense had been issued by the District Court. The arrest is the result of an investigation into allegations that Mazer, a teacher at Mountain Ridge High School, had engaged in inappropriate sexual contact, with a then 17 year old female who was a student at the school, during October and November 2013. The incidents occurred at Mazer’s private residence. None of the sexual contact occurred on school property. The student has since graduated.  As part of the investigation, Investigators have obtained evidence that supports the allegations. In addition, Investigators obtained a search and seizure warrant for Mazer’s residence, and additional items of evidence were recovered at that time.  Mazer was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance. He is currently being held on $20,000.00 bond at the Allegany County Detention Center pending his next court appearance. The investigation is continuing by C3I with the cooperation of the Allegany County Board of Education and the administration at Mountain Ridge High School. In response to Mr. Mazer's arrest this morning, the Allegany County Public School System has issued the following statement:  "These are very serious allegations, and the school system is cooperating fully with C3I.  Mr. Mazer has been placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation."
