Arrest Made in Domestic Dispute

On September 12, 2017 at 2:51pm, members of the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Maryland State Police responded to Lone Oak Road, Cresaptown for a report of a male holding a firearm to a females head.

Allegany County Schools in the Cresaptown Area were advised to lock down until the incident was resolved. The Allegany County Negotiations Team and Emergency Medical Services were alerted as well.

Prior to Law Enforcement arrival the female was able to get away from the male and flee the residence. A perimeter was established around the residence and Lone Oak was shut down.

A Negotiator from the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office was able to establish telephone communications with the male and was able to talk him into surrendering to Law Enforcement on scene. The male exited the residence with his hands up and was taken into custody without incident. Deputies cleared the residence and found no one else inside.

The male suspect was identified as Charles Burley, age 57 of Cresaptown. Following an investigation, Burley was placed under arrest and taken to the Allegany County Detention Center to await his initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner. Burley is charged with 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault, and Intoxicated Endangerment. Additional Charges are pending. 15 firearms were seized from the residence.

The Family Crisis Resource Center responded to the scene to assist the female victim.
