Arrest made in funeral home theft

On Monday,  the Cumberland Police arrested 59 year old Vickie Lynn Herbaugh, of Cumberland, in connection with the theft of jewelry from a business on Virginia Avenue, which occurred on Sunday. Herbaugh had been developed as a suspect during the initial stages of the investigation into the theft.  On Monday, the Cumberland Police responded to a private residence on Arch Street on an unrelated matter. Patrol Officers encountered Herbaugh at that location and noticed that she was wearing some of the reported stolen jewelry. Once the jewelry was positively identified, Herbaugh was placed under arrest.  Herbaugh was charged with 2nd Degree Burglary, 4th Degree Burglary, and Theft. She was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance and is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center on $20,000.00 bond pending her next court appearance.  The investigation is continuing by the Cumberland Police and C3I

    She doesn’t pose a threat to public safety. She is now in a institution where she should had been placed years before
