Arrest Made in Animal Cruelty Case

On November 6th, 2014 at 1pm the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office were at an apartment on Springdale Street in Cumberland completing a District Court Eviction.

During the course of the eviction it was discovered that the occupants of the apartment had been mistreating several animals in the residence. Allegany County Animal Control was brought in to assist with the investigation.

It was discovered that Animal Control had already been at the residence on Monday November 3rd, 2014 and had rescued 6 cats and 1 dog. During the course of the eviction on November 6th, 5 additional cats were discovered in the apartment. All animals were in extremely poor condition.

Of the 12 animals rescued, 1 cat could not be saved and had to be humanely euthanized by the Allegany County Animal Shelter. The remaining animals are being treated at the Animal Shelter. It is not known at this time if the other 11 animals will survive.

Eric Allen Rodenberg, 41, Cumberland, was arrested at the scene. Rodenberg was charged with 24 counts of Animal Cruelty (2 charges per animal), False Statement to a Law Enforcement Officer, and Obstructing & Hindering.

An Arrest Warrant was obtained for Shannon Marie Snyder, 28, Cumberland. Snyder was charged with 24 counts of Animal Cruelty (2 charges per animal), False Statement to a Law Enforcement Officer, and Obstructing & Hindering. Snyder was taken into custody without incident Thursday evening.
