Authorities Continue Investigation Into Suspect Impersonating A Police Officer

Investigators with the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) have obtained better surveillance photos of a suspect wanted for questioning in connection with an incident which occurred on 05/09/2012 in the bathroom of the JC Penney’s in the Country Club Mall where the suspect allegedly approached the 71 year old victim and identified himself as a police officer.

The suspect advised the victim that he had violated the law and was being placed under arrest. The suspect was able to convince the victim to drive to his own credit union and withdraw and give him an undisclosed sum of cash as bond before releasing him.

            The suspect was described as a white male, 30 to 40 years of age, 6-00 to 6-03 in height, medium build, and light blond or brown hair, with a short military style haircut. The suspect was wearing tan slacks, a light blue shirt, blue sport coat, and brown shoes. The suspect had what appeared to be a surgical scar that was visible on the back of his head.

            Law enforcement authorities are asking anyone who can identify the suspect to contact the Maryland State Police at 301-729-2101, or the C3I Unit at 301-777-0326. Callers who wish to remain anonymous can call the Allegany/Mineral County Crime Solvers at 301-722-4300, where callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1500.00 for information leading to an arrest in this case.

            The investigation is continuing by the Maryland State Police and C3I.
