AYP Results released

The Allegany County Public School System met System Improvement Status to achieve Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for the 2011 school year.  System Improvement Status measures AYP at the elementary, middle and high school levels.  In addition, the percent of students passing the High School Assessments (HSAs) increased, and graduation rates climbed. 

The state must identify for improvement any LEA that does not meet annual targets for two consecutive years in the same reported area at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.  Allegany County Public Schools as a whole met System Improvement Status.  At the elementary level, all students scored 89.1% proficient in reading compared to the State’s Annual Measurable Objective (AMO) of 85.9%, and all students were 88.7% proficient in math compared to the AMO of 84.5%.  ACPS students were also 1.1% higher than the average attendance rate at 95.1%. 

At the middle school level, all students scored 78.8% proficient in reading compared to the AMO of 85.6%, and all students were 75.4% proficient in math compared to the state’s AMO of 78.6%.  

At the high school level on the English HSA, 80.3% of all students scored proficient on the exam, surpassing the state’s AMO of 79.5%, and 87.1% of all students were proficient on the algebra HSA compared to the state’s AMO of 73.7%; however, Allegany and Fort Hill High Schools did not achieve AYP for the special education subgroup in reading, placing them in need of local attention
