The Baldwin locomotive No. 1309, built in 1949, is being restored and ready to roll in 2016 for the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad- and the hope is the attraction will provide a tremendous boost in ridership for the local tourist train. The scenic railroad says it was the last commercially built steam engine made by Philadelphia-based Baldwin Locomotive Works for use in the United States. The 217-ton steam locomotive had been housed at Baltimore’s B&O Railroad Museum until being transported to Cumberland in July.
