Allegany County State’s Attorney Michael Twigg, announced today the sentencing of Joseph Mac Caster, 35, of Baltimore, Maryland for his conviction on several offenses relating to possession of illegal narcotics from a jury trial on December 2nd 2014. Mr. Caster was arrested on April 29th, 2014 when police executed a search and seizure warrant on a residence in Frostburg, Maryland. Mr. Caster was arrested along with several other individuals from the Baltimore area. Search of the residence revealed both heroin and cocaine with an estimated street value in excess of $10,000 along with several thousand dollars in cash. Mr. Caster was sentenced to 32 years in the Maryland Department of Corrections. Specifically, he received a sentence of 14 years for possession with intent to distribute heroin with an additional consecutive 14 years for possession with intent to distribute cocaine. Finally, he was sentenced to an additional 4 years for possession of controlled paraphernalia. The State filed notice to seek enhanced penalties last year in this case based on Mr. Caster’s prior criminal record. Other individuals in the home were also arrested and are awaiting trial and/or sentencing. “This is another example of what I consider the major threat to our community, namely, drug dealers descending on our county for the sole purpose of selling narcotics. As with all of these cases, my office will continue to target and seek enhanced penalties against those who bring drugs into our community.” Mr. Caster was represented by Sean Gallagher, Esq. ASA Sam Lane prosecuted the case for the State and the Honorable Gary Leasure presided over the matter.
