Baltimore Man Sentenced To 40 Years For Attempted Murder Here

August 10th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

The Office of the State’s Attorney for Allegany County, Michael O. Twigg, State’s Attorney, announced on Wednesday, August 10, that Mark Antonio Brown, 23 of Baltimore, entered a plea of guilty in Allegany County Circuit Court to one count of Attempted First Degree Murder.  In line with the plea agreement, the Honorable W. Timothy Finan, Administrative Judge of the Circuit Court, sentenced Brown to 40 years in the Maryland Department of Corrections.

On the evening of March 30, 2016, Cumberland City Police responded to Fort Cumberland Homes in the city for a report of shots fired.  The C3I Unit investigated, which revealed that Brown was with a group of men who went to the housing community with the purpose of killing the victim.  Once there, Brown produced a handgun and fired several shots at the victim, missing him.  The men then fled the scene.

Brown was arrested the next day, and while awaiting trial at the Allegany County Detention Center, made several attempts to have others contact witnesses in the case, asking them to lie, say he was not present at the time of the shooting and not appear at trial to testify.

A co-defendant, Marquise Holt, was convicted on July 29, following a jury trial, for his role in the offenses and is at the Allegany County Detention Center awaiting sentencing.

Allegany County Assistant State’s Attorneys Karen Detrick and Erich Bean prosecuted the case.  Brown was represented by attorney Sean Gallagher.
