Ban on Synthetic Drugs May Become State-Wide Law

January 7th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Times-News reports that a local law already enacted banning synthetic drugs may have a chance to become a statewide law, with some modifications, after being prefiled by Delegate Kevin Kelly for consideration in the General Assembly session, which begins Wednesday in Annapolis. The Allegany County commissioners enacted a law last September cracking down on the manufacturing and distribution of many of the more popular synthetic drugs. Delegate Kelly says that the state has the ability to shut these shops down, and sees no reason as to why a statewide edict cannot be put into place. The substances are often sold in small shops offering smoking tobacco and equipment. Allegany County Sheriff Craig Robertson said that although it’s only been in effect for a few months, the local law has had a significant impact, and he would encourage a statewide effort.
