Barricade ends in burglary arrests

December 27th, 2014 by WCBC Radio

On Friday evening just before 8:00 PM the Cumberland Police Department was dispatched to the 400 block of Oldtown Road Cumberland, MD for a follow-up on a burglary reported earlier on the same day.  Once on scene, police discovered that a nearby residence had been broken into and the suspects were seen inside of a vacant residence that was identified as 407 Oldtown Road.  Further investigation revealed that several high powered rifles and shotguns had been stolen as well as ammunition.  While on scene officers observed a white male subject looking out of the vacant residence.  Officers ordered the suspect to come out of the house at which time he refused.  A perimeter was established around the house and attempts to contact the suspect were made for a period of time.  The Cumberland Police Negotiation team responded as well as the Cumberland Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T) and relieved patrol and continued to attempt to make contact with the suspect.  After several hours C.E.R.T. was able to make entry and located and arrested two suspects.  After entry was made, officers did recover numerous items reported stolen in the prior burglary.

Arrested were William Lee Wratchford, Sr. and Christian James Jones.  They were each charged with 1st Degree Burglary, 3rd Degree Burglary, 4th Degree Burglary, and Theft $1000 to $10,000.  The investigation is continuing.
