Barton Man Gets 20 Years

The Office of the State’s Attorney for Allegany County, Michael O. Twigg, State’s Attorney, announced on Thursday, April 2, 2015, that Chad Lucas Custer, 35, of Barton, Maryland, was sentenced in the Circuit Court for Allegany County, Maryland to twenty (20) years, five of which were suspended.  The sentence was the result of a plea entered on November 5, 2014, to Child Abuse in the First Degree.

Upon release from custody Custer will be on supervised probation for a period of three years.  The conditions of his probation are as follows: abstain from alcohol and abusive use of drugs; submit to alcohol and drug evaluation testing and treatment; attend counseling for psychiatric and psychological treatment; have no contact with the victim or her family; do not be found near victims home or school; and have no unsupervised contact with minors other than his own children.

 

The case was prosecuted by Jacqueline R. Brandlen, Senior Assistant State’s Attorney.  Mr. Custer was represented by David Schram of the Office of the Public Defender.  The Honorable Gary Leasure, Judge of the Circuit Court for Allegany County, presided over the matter.
