Bedford County Company Lowest Bidder In Final Phase Of Route 219 Work

February 25th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

The Tribune Democrat reports a Bedford County company is the front-runner to complete the final phase of Route 219 work from Somerset to Meyersdale. The apparent low bidder was New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. Inc. of New Enterprise with a bid amount of $52,124,021. PennDOT on Thursday announced the bid results for the paving phase of the route from Somerset to Meyersdale project, which will build approximately 11 miles of new, four-lane limited-access highway from Somerset to Meyersdale in Summit, Black, Brothersvalley and Somerset townships, Somerset County.

The paving phase is the third and final phase of the project and includes final grading, paving, guiderail, drainage and interchange work, including lighting.

The first two phases of the project were the earthwork phase and the structures phase. Those remain under construction.

New Enterprise was the lowest of four bidders, according to the department. PennDOT is to review the bid materials from New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. Inc.

If the information is complete and in order, the construction contract should be awarded to the company within the next month, Thomas Prestash, PennDOT District 9 executive said.

“We’re very excited to be moving forward with the final phase of the project and expect the highway to be open to traffic by 2018," he said in a release.

"This project has been a long time coming and once complete will provide improved safety and mobility for the traveling public as well as economic growth potential for the region."
