On April 7, 2017, at 1:00 pm the Cumberland Police Department and Cumberland Fire Department responded to a Bedford Street residence for a report of a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 23-year-old man with a suspected self-inflicted wound. The man was treated on the scene by the Cumberland Fire Department and subsequently transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The investigation confirmed that the injury was self-inflicted and no further foul play was suspected. There are no dangers to the community as a result of this incident.
