A 48-year-old Bedford County woman is being charged with first-degree murder following the fatal shooting of her father on Wednesday between 1:30 and 2 a.m. The Cumberland Times News reports Christy Ann Zelanko allegedly shot her father, James Albert Zelanko, 68, with a small caliber handgun while he was sleeping in his bed, according to Pennsylvania State Police with the Bedford barrack.
James Zelanko died at the scene from his injuries and an autopsy will be performed later Wednesday. Bedford County Deputy Corner Rusty Styer assisted at the scene.
Christy is also being charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and possession of instruments of crime. She will be held in the Bedford County Jail pending a preliminary hearing.
The investigation is ongoing.
