Bel-Air Business Robbed

On Saturday, 03/10/2012, at approximately 10:25 PM, a lone male suspect entered the Penny’s One Stop Convenience Store in Bel-Air, Allegany County, Maryland as the lone clerk was working inside the business. The suspect was not armed with any type of weapon.

            The suspect approached the clerk asked for change for a one (1) dollar bill.  After the clerk opened the cash register, the suspect reached over the counter and removed an undisclosed amount of cash from the register.   The suspect exited the business and fled from the area on foot.  The suspect was last seen running south from the business towards Bel-Air Plaza. 

            After the suspect fled from the business, the clerk contacted the Allegany County Sheriff’s Department.  Allegany County Sheriff Department Deputies responded to the scene, along with members of the Maryland State Police. A search was conducted in the area for the suspect utilizing a K-9 dog and officers that responded to the scene, the suspect was not located.       

            Investigators with the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) also responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. Investigators obtained a description of the suspect. The suspect was described as being a white male, approximately 6-00 feet in height, 150 to 185 pounds, thin build and clean cut hair.  The suspect was wearing a brown baggie sweater, brown knit hat, tan cargo pants and dark in colored shoes/boots. 

The investigation is continuing by the Allegany County Sheriff’s Department and C3I. Anyone who has information on the crime is being asked to contact the C3I Unit, at 301-777-0326, or the Allegany County Sheriff’s Department, at 301-777-5959. Callers who wish to remain anonymous can contact the Allegany/Mineral County Crime Solvers at 301-722-4300, where callers may be eligible for a reward of up to $1500.00 for information leading to an arrest in this case.
