Bennett Recommends Withholding Funding Until Board Provides Audit

July 12th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Increasingly frustrated by the failure of the board of education to deliver its audit- Allegany County’s finance director is recommending that the county commissioners take a more assertive approach. Jason Bennett, pointing out that the board’s audit was due last October 1, reiterated to the county commissioners during Thursday’s meeting that the county is now out of compliance with its state and federal funding partners- and soon could face penalties. He suggested withholding funding from the school board until the issue is resolved…

County Commissioners President Jake Shade said he hopes it doesn’t have to come to that. Expressing his exasperation with the situation, Shade noted that another audit is due in just a few months …

It appears the action won’t be necessary, as the board’s July 16th meeting agenda, issued yesterday afternoon, does include consideration of the audit.

The Board may not be able to complete the audit as required but that certainly doesn’t stop them from bickering and the constant friction that is so apparent at every meeting.
The 5 board members will be able to point 5 fingers in 5 different directions which benefits no one.
Withholding funding is no punishment for the Board. It might well punish the students in the upcoming school year.
When I was in school the nuns took a ruler to us if we misbehaved. I have a ruler I am willing to donate to the cause.
