Bills Would Address Concerns Over State Raiding Various Fund Sources

Tired of seeing targeted tax dollars being utilized for other purposes- the Allegany County Commissioners and other counties that are part of the rural coalition in Maryland are pushing for a number of bills that would address those concerns. In recent years it has become routine for the state to transfer money earmarked for cleaning up the Chesapeake Bay as well as the Transportation Trust fund to the general fund to help balance the budget. MACO recently endorsed two such bills designed to halt the state from raiding those fund sources. Commissioners Bill Valentine and Mike McKay say it’s a matter of principal and integrity- and it’s a simple request for lawmakers to be honest with taxpayers…
